SOUTH PUTNAM COUNTY

Cross the St. Johns River over the
Memorial Bridge and head to the south
end of Putnam County. Enjoy the quiet
charm as you pass through the towns of
San Mateo, Satsuma, Pomona Park, Welaka,
Fruitland, Crescent City and Georgetown.
These small communities have built up on
the banks of the St. Johns River and its
canals and the many lakes within the
borders of the county. This is great
bass fishing territory and the site of
numerous fishing tournaments every year.
Dunns Creek branches off of the river
and winds for several miles into
Crescent Lake. Dunns Creek Recreation
Park preserves the natural setting of
the area where wildlife abounds. The
water paradise of South Putnam has
attracted retirees for many years and
the area is suddenly booming with new
housing developments to handle the
influx of new residents. An 18-hole golf
course at Fruitland adds to recreational
opportunities.
